Here Bhatia explains how depression effects children and adolescence. They also discuss other initial risk factors children face that lead to their depression that include neglect of abuse, being female, chronic illness etc. They go on to suggest a way to beat the “black box” is to do heavy monitoring of the child in question for the first couple of months of treatment.
