More inportantly he is looking at an explosion in evolutionary growth on our planet that happened 2.5 million years ago. This is the time in our history that we come to the ice ages. It was now that those humans with the ability to make tools and had better suvival skills (survival of the fitest) dominate the landscape while the rest dies off. because of this fact the tools got exponentially more complex until today.
